Rules & Regulations

 

Now is the time to enter those fabulous projects that you have designed since January 1st, 2022. We encourage all ASID Individual Members and Industry Partners in good standing to enter the California San Diego Chapter of ASID Design Excellence Awards 2024 Competition.

The Design Excellence Awards is a great opportunity for students to gain experience in entering competitions, become familiar with your local chapter, and possibly add a valuable accomplishment to your resume. For Industry Partner members this is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to ASID San Diego's large designer membership. For San Diego Individual Members, this is an opportunity to gain publicity for you, your firm, make your designs the benchmark of the industry, and inspire a new generation of young designers.

Winning entries will be announced and awarded at the San Diego ASID Design Excellence Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, December 4th 2024.

Entrants receive 1 ticket to the Awards Ceremony and Holiday Gala. An additional Gala ticket is included for each 5 additional projects entered. 

NO ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED WITHOUT THESE PERMISSIONS COMPLETED.

 Please note that judging will be completed by another Chapter. No person affiliated with ASID San Diego Chapter will be judging.

Requirements for Entry

  • All photographs entered in the ASID San Diego Chapter Design Excellence Awards 2024 Competition must be be at least 300 dpi. Professional photography is highly recommended. If the photographs do not meet 300 dpi, ASID San Diego Chapter reserves the right to decline using the winning entry for any marketing materials.
  • The number of photos depends on the category. Please refer to the category description.
  • Floor Plans should indicate furniture placement and location of all architectural features. 
  • Reflected Ceiling Plan (optional) 
  • Remove all title blocks, to ensure equity in judging designs. Submittals will be disqualified if they contain company logos, designer and/or firm names. 
  • The submitted entries will not be returned.

Design Concept Statement – maximum of 250 word Design Concept Statement – 1 page; 8-1/2 x 11;; File labeled with your Entry # – (For example: 2024 Entry #15 – Design Concept Statement) MAKE SURE TO REMOVE ALL IDENTIFICATION (Firm or designer name, client name) FROM THE CONCEPT STATEMENT.

  • Failure to do so will result in disqualification. 
  • Pretend you are speaking directly to another person; set the stage for the juror and the reader; identify the problem(s) or challenge(s); identify specific goals with the project. The design concept statement MUST address the impact of the final design on the client as it relates to their particular experience (problems and/or challenges).

 Our Purpose

The purpose of the California San Diego Chapter of ASID 2024 Design Excellence Awards is to recognize and reward outstanding interior design by ASID California San Diego Chapter Members and to encourage and inspire new ideas and showcase innovations in the design and furnishing of interior spaces.

 Design Impacts Lives

Interior Design has a significant impact on the lives of those it touches.  A goal of the California San Diego Chapter of ASID Design Excellence Awards is to bring awareness to the general public of how design can improve and impact the quality of their day-to-day lives.

Entry Fees

Individual Members and Industry Partners

First entry = $250.00, All additional entries= $150.00 

Early Bird First Entry $200 from 7/22 – 8/22

One Entry fee per category. If one project is to be submitted for 2 categories, additional entry fee to be paid. 

Students

First entry= $95.00, All additional entries = $50.00

Early Bird First Entry $75 from 7/22 – 8/22

One Entry fee per category. If one project is to be submitted for 2 categories, additional entry fee to be paid. 

 

Schedule 

  • Monday, July 22 @ 12:00 am | Online Standard Entry Submission Opens 
  • Wednesday, August 22nd @ 11:59 pm | Early Bird Submission Pricing Closes
  • Tuesday, October 1st @ 11:59 pm | Deadline for Online Entry Submissions 
  • Wednesday, December 4th @ 6:00 pm | Awards Ceremony 

 

INDIVIDUAL MEMBER COMPETITION

Eligibility Criteria

  • Any San Diego Chapter ASID Individual Member in good standing may enter the competition.  
  • Project completed on or after January 1st, 2022
  • Previously awarded projects may not be submitted.

Now is the time to show off your best work in any of these spaces:

Individual Member: Residential Categories  

Residential Single Space (Other than kitchen or bathroom. Including outdoor living space, novelty space).No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan, allowed. This space is limited to one room or area with no full walls separating spaces and must not be part of any other category.

Condominium

The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Free-Standing Home New Construction or Remodel

The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

 

Kitchen - small (200 sq.ft or less)

No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Kitchen - large No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Bathroom - Small  (100 sq.ft or less)No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Bathroom - Large No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Health and Wellness Including Universal Design, Accessible/Aging in Place, Workout Rooms, Spiritual Spaces, Meditation Rooms, use of non-toxic materials & Sustainable Design.  No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

 

Vacation Rental  

The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Specialty/Unique Has a unique application such as doggy playroom, artist space, multi-functional space, plant room, etc…)

No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Design Detail  Custom object or detail including but not limited to furniture, lighting fixture, built-in cabinetry, etc.)

No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

Individual Member: Commercial Categories  

For all commercial categories, the designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

 

Commercial Single Space

 

Office, Co-Working Space, Tech, Education, Civic  

 

Public Spaces, Hospitality, Multifamily           

 

Restaurants

 

Healthcare

 

Health and Wellness: Including but not limited to Universal Design, Accessible/Aging in Place, Spa, Workout Rooms, Spiritual Spaces, Meditation Rooms, use of non-toxic materials & Sustainable Design

INDUSTRY PARTNER MEMBER COMPETITION

Eligibility Criteria

  • San Diego Chapter ASID Inustry Partner Member in good standing may enter the competition.  
  • Project completed on or after January 1st, 2022
  • Previously awarded projects, by ASID San Diego, may not be submitted.
  • For projects submitted by an Industry Partner, only the Industry Partner will be named on any award received unless the designer submitting the project holds an ASID Individual membership.

Industry Partner Categories:

Residential Singular Space (Other than kitchen or bathroom) including outdoor living space, novelty space) No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan, allowed. This space is limited to one room or area with no full walls separating spaces. This space must not be part of any other category. 

Residential Kitchen
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Residential Bathroom 
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Commercial Space
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Design Detail 
An object or detail including but not limited to furniture, built-in cabinetry, wall treatment, use of textiles, use of hard surfaces, technology & lighting, product design, etc. No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

 

STUDENT MEMBER COMPETITION 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Any San Diego Chapter ASID Student Member in good standing may enter the competition.  
  • Projects completed on or after January 1st, 2022
  • Previously awarded projects may not be submitted.

Student Member Categories:  

Student Residential
Up to 4 photographs allowed

Student Commercial
Up to 4 photographs allowed

Design Detail An object or detail including but not limited to furniture, built-in cabinetry, wall treatment, use of textiles, use of hard surfaces, technology & lighting, product design, etc. Up to 4 photographs allowed
