Now is the time to enter those fabulous projects that you have designed since January 1, 2021. We encourage all ASID Designers, Students, and Industry Partner members in good standing to enter the California San Diego Chapter of ASID Design Excellence Awards 2022 Competition.

The Design Excellence Awards is an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience in entering competitions, become familiar with your local chapter, and possibly add a valuable accomplishment to your resume. For IP's this is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to ASID San Diego's large designer membership. For San Diego Designers, this is an opportunity to gain publicity for you, your firm, make your designs the benchmark of the industry, and inspire a new generation of young designers.

Winning entries will be announced and awarded at the San Diego ASID Design Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, December 7th 2022

Entrants receive 1 ticket to the Awards Ceremony and Holiday Gala.

Requirements for Entry

  • All photographs entered in the ASID San Diego Chapter Design Excellence Awards 2022 Competition must be professionally photographed and to be at least 300 dpi.  If the photographs do not meet 300 dpi, ASID San Diego Chapter reserves the right to decline using the winning entry for any marketing materials.
  • The number of photos depends on the category. Please refer to the category description.
  • Floor Plans should indicate furniture placement and location of all architectural features. 
  • Reflected Ceiling Plan (optional) 
  • Remove all title blocks, to ensure equity in judging designs. Submittals will be disqualified if they contain company logos, designer and/or firm names. 
  • The submitted entries will not be returned.

Design Concept Statement – maximum 150 words Design Concept Statement – 1 page; 8-1/2 x 11; maximum 150 words; File labeled with your Entry # – (For example: 2022 Entry #15 – Design Concept Statement) MAKE SURE TO REMOVE ALL IDENTIFICATION (Firm or designer name, client name) FROM THE CONCEPT STATEMENT.

  • Failure to do so will result in disqualification. 
  • Pretend you are speaking directly to another person; set the stage for the juror and the reader; identify the problem(s) or challenge(s); identify specific goals with the project. The design concept statement MUST address the impact of the final design on the client as it relates to their particular experience (problems and/or challenges).

 

Our Purpose

The purpose of the California San Diego Chapter of ASID 2022 Design Excellence Awards is to recognize and reward outstanding interior design by ASID California San Diego Chapter Members and to encourage and inspire new ideas and showcase innovations in the design and furnishing of interior spaces.

 

Design Impact Lives

Interior Design has a significant impact on the lives of those it touches.  A goal of the California San Diego Chapter of ASID Design Excellence Awards is to bring awareness to the general public of how design can improve and impact the quality of their day-to-day lives.

Entry Fees: Designers & IP’s
First entry = $195.00 with each additional entry = $150.00
Students
Each entry= $95.00

  • Friday, July 1 @ 8:00 am | Online Standard Entry Submission Opens 
  • Saturday, October 15 @ 5:00 pm | Deadline for Online Entry Submissions 
  • Wednesday, December 7th @ 6:00 pm | Awards Ceremony 

 

DESIGNER COMPETITION

Eligibility Criteria

  • Any San Diego Chapter ASID Professional or Allied Member in good standing may enter the competition.  
  • Project completed after January 1, 2021
  • Previously awarded projects may not be submitted.

Now is the time to show off your best work in any of these spaces:

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

Residential Space Over 3500 Sq. Ft. (New or Remodel)
The designer must present photographs of at least four significant areas, with no more than eight photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Residential Space Under 3500 Sq. Ft. (New or Remodel)
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Large Kitchen (Greater than 250 sq. ft.) 
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Small  Kitchen (Less than 250 sq. ft.)
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Large Bathroom (Greater than 60 sq. ft.) 
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Small Bathroom (Less than 60 sq. ft.) 
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Singular Residential Space (including outdoor living space, novelty space) 

  • No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan, allowed. 
  • This space is limited to one room or area with no full walls separating spaces. 
  • This space must not be part of any other category. 

Universal/Accessible/Aging in Place Space Focuses on a space that has been designed to keep universal, accessibility, or aging in place in mind.  
No more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed 

Sustainable Design
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

 

COMMERCIAL DESIGN

Small Hospitality 
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Large Hospitality 
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Healthcare
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed

Corporate/Institutional
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

Multi-family Public Space
The designer must present photographs of at least two significant areas, with no more than six photographs, including Floor Plan allowed.

PRODUCT DESIGN

Product/Furniture Design by an Interior Designer
No more than four photographs allowed.

 

 

INDUSTRY PARTNER COMPETITION

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an Industry Partner Member in good standing of ASID within the area of the San Diego Chapter.
  • Project completed after January 1, 2021 
  • Previously awarded projects, by ASID San Diego, may not be submitted.

INDUSTRY PARTNER CATEGORIES

Wall Treatment - faux finishing, plasterwork, wallpaper, murals, etc. 
Present no more than six photographs

Use of Textiles - drapery, blinds, bedding, unique upholstery, carpet, rugs, etc.
Present no more than six photographs

Use of Hard Surfaces - wood, tile, millwork, stone, ironwork, hardware, etc.
Present no more than six photographs

Technology & Lighting - use and installation of electrical components and home automation
Present no more than six photographs

Product Design - Product Design by an Industry Partner 
Present no more than four photographs

 

STUDENT COMPETITION

Eligibility Criteria

  • Any San Diego Chapter ASID Student Member in good standing may enter the competition.  
  • Project completed after January 1, 2021 
  • Previously awarded projects may not be submitted.

STUDENT CATEGORIES:

Student Residential
Up to 4 photographs allowed

Student Commercial
Up to 4 photographs allowed

Student Sustainable and or Universal Design
Up to 4 photographs allowed
